I actually saw these (light up seesaws) when they were first installed in Montreal and was fascinated by them, and thought this would be a really cool thing to bring into Charlotte ... Across the street from the park is the 7th Street Market, housing new businesses trying to get off the ground. They include Geno D’s Pizza, whose owner said the profit from this event every year is simply incomparable. The festival is produced by Charlotte Center City Partners and presented by Atrium Health and Bank of America. Last year, over 1.8 million people visited Uptown during the 17 days of the festival.

To showcase local artists’ talent inspired by famous, bejeweled eggs. This year we will have 13 giant eggs – a baker’s dozen – at The Green. Each egg is designed by a local artist. Pianodrome is a radical re-imagining of the piano in today’s throw-away society. We create unique playable, community-centered sculptures made entirely from otherwise disused pianos.

These installations were brought to life by talented artists, including Liz Miller, Reuben Bloom, Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Dan Borelli, Thang Dao, Amanda Moody, Beth Yarnelle Edwards, and many others.
Charlotte Shout’s Pianodrome is the first to be built in America, and it’s hosted at Grace A.M.E. Zion Church. You can expect the return of some of the most popular interactive features from past years, as well as many new experiences. Read on to learn about all the art installations and events. There are many more art installations, art projects, scavenger hunts, special events, performances, even yoga classes that are happening around uptown during the 17-day festival. Most street festivals only last a weekend, but Charlotte SHOUT! Is stretched over 17 days from March 31-April 16, with live music happening nearly every day at three outdoor stages around uptown, and funky pop-up art installations in various areas all within walking distance. The music programming at the festival is sponsored by Ally and includes many events geared toward all ages.
In addition, visitors can order secret off-menu items from the Seventh Street Market eateries all festival long. Musical seesaws — This popular installation called "Impulse" returns to Levine Avenue of the Arts for this year's festival. Take a ride on one of about a dozen seesaws that glow and make sounds when they're in action. New for 2024, Charlotte StrEATs Uncorked highlights North Carolina’s unique wine regions and regional cuisines with pairings from area chefs. Both emerging and established artists perform an eclectic mix of genres.
The play of lights, colors, and reflections provides a stunning and immersive way to engage with the city after dark, offering a unique visual experience. The festival will feature music, art, poetry, food, interactive activities, large arts installations, kids’ activities and more. Big bugs — Two giant insects have landed in The Green, created by local artists Ian Wegener and Adam Jochim. Visitors can make the "In(ter)sects" come alive by turning their wheels. With nearly 200 installations, performances, events, and activations in tow, the multi-week festival takes over uptown once again April 1-17. It’s a long-awaited return for Charlotte Shout! But that’s why its charge, to showcase our community’s creativity, innovation, diversity, and resilience, is so important in 2022.It does just that with what organizers call its “pillars”—art, food, music, and ideas. Highlights from its ever-updated and expanding schedule of activities hint at the massive scope of this year’s festival. Nearly all of the events are outdoors, free, and open to the public without tickets.
“Shout was very controlled and they were very timely on their schedule so at 10 o’clock the music shut down so it wasn’t a problem at all,” shared Dyer. Charlotte Shout organizers are encouraging guests to make their own adventure out of the sights, sounds, and experiences it has to offer. “This is the busiest time ever right now. When I say we have ticket lines down to the floor – I mean at 6 we’re just getting through, but we’re pushing. This dynamic, in-the-round intimate venue will be housed inside the historic Grace on Brevard venue and will come alive with dozens of performances by local artists. For 17 days, Uptown Charlotte will transform into a creative paradise. The festival weaves together the extraordinary talents of internationally and locally acclaimed artists, dancers, musicians, poets, storytellers, photographers, chefs and thought leaders.
Watch as local and international artists collaborate to adorn these walls with vibrant color. The Spray Jam Celebration Party on Sunday, April 14 celebrates the final product. Unwind with an hour of yoga followed by a two-hour dance party featuring performance artists, aerialists, fire spinners, breakdancers and more. White attire, symbolic of peace, is recommended. The Charlotte Ideas Festival, curated by The Charlotte Center for the Humanities and Civic Imagination, will feature renowned thinkers and innovators exploring the most important topics of our times.
One of the new features at Charlotte SHOUT! Is Pianodrome, the first performance space made entirely from upcycled pianos in America. This intimate venue is housed inside the historic Grace on Brevard venue and features a 75-seat sculpture that comes alive with dozens of performances by local artists.
The festival kicks off on Friday, April 5 with a barbecue spread, crawfish boil and a private concert from Filmore. On Saturday, April 6, enjoy barbecue tastings, live music from North Carolina acts and vendors on site. A number of fan-favorite Charlotte SHOUT! Installations are returning to Uptown this year, including interactive seesaws and an amphitheater made from upcycled pianos at Grace on Brevard that's the first of its kind in the United States. Easter Eggs on Parade is a fun way for Charlotte SHOUT!
